What Are Dental Bridges?

Unlike removable devices such as dentures, dental bridge work is cemented onto natural teeth or dental implants, or a combination of both on either side of a missing tooth. Bridges strengthen damaged teeth and can improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). If you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge procedure from our staff at Advantage Dentistry might be the right dental treatment for you.

There are various types of bridges, but a traditional bridge is made by creating a crown for the teeth on either side of the space and placing a false tooth or teeth between the crowns. The crowns, sometimes called caps, can be supported by natural teeth, but only if the surround teeth and gums are healthy. The false tooth or teeth are then attached to the crowns and fill the empty space. Getting a bridge typically requires two visits, but often more. A bridge can last more than 10 years, especially if you practice good oral hygiene.
