Brush Your Teeth Correctly

The only benefit of brushing your teeth is not just a whiter smile and fresher breath, it’s important for your overall health. When you brush, you remove plaque – a thin film of bacteria that sticks to your teeth and will cause cavities and gum disease, if you ignore it long enough. You know why you need to brush, but if you don’t do it correctly, not all of the plaque will disappear. This is why our staff at Advantage Dentistry would like to share the proper brushing technique with you.

  • Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.

  • Gently move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes.

  • Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

  • To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.

  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

Of course, brushing your teeth isn’t the only part of a complete dental routine. Don’t forget to floss and visit us regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.
