Sedation Options at Advantage Dentistry

Here at Advantage Dentistry, we offer two common types of sedation options to our patients: oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide. Neither of these options knocks you unconscious; however, they do ease your fears and help you receive treatment in a comfortable in a safe manner. If you are wondering what the difference is between the two, allow us to explain.

  • Nitrous Oxide is also known as laughing gas and it is the most commonly used form of sedation in dentistry. We place a mask over the patient’s nose and it is administered by the patient inhaling the gas. You will fall into a euphoric state and our doctor can control the amount of sedation you receive. This is the only form of sedation where you may be able to drive yourself home.

  • Oral conscious sedation allows you to remain awake during the procedure, but you will be in a heightened state of relaxation. It is also possible that you will not remember part or all of your procedure. Oral conscious sedation is as easy as taking an aspirin and you will feel relaxed and at ease. You will need to have someone drive you to and from the office if you use oral conscious sedation for your safety.

If you have further questions about sedation options, give us a call. To schedule your appointment with Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, call our office at 716-877-2275 or visit our website www.advantagedentistry.com for more information about the services we provide.

What is Nitrous Oxide?

Some people would rather endure the agony of a toothache rather than step foot in a dentist’s office, while others simply desire relaxation during an appointment. Nitrous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” is one option one of our doctors may offer to patients to help make them more comfortable during certain procedures. If you are a candidate for sedation, our staff at Advantage Dentistry is here to make you feel as calm and comfortable as possible.

Nitrous oxide is the most commonly used form of sedation dentistry. It is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. It is not intended to put you to sleep. Therefore, you will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the doctor may have for you. When nitrous oxide is being administered you will breathe normally through your nose and within a few short minutes begin to feel the effects.

If you experience dental fear, please inform us the next time you make an appointment. To schedule your appointment with Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, call our office at 716-877-2275 or visit our website www.advantagedentistry.com for more information about the services we provide.

Sedation Dentistry in Kenmore, NY

We know having dental work done may not be the most relaxing experience. For many, dental work actually incites anxiety. It is for this reason that here at Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY, we offer several options for sedation. We aim for all of our patients to have a comfortable and pleasant visit with us.

Whether you are having major dental work performed or a simple cavity filled, we want to be sure our patients do not experience any anxiety or fear during the process. We have several options for sedation that will allow any nervousness to disappear. The procedure will seem to go by quicker as you drift into ease.

Oral conscious sedation relaxes you but it allows you to remain conscious during the procedure. You may not remember part of all of the procedure afterwards. It is in the form of a pill and the effects may last beyond the procedure, so you will need someone to drive you home.

Anxiolysis is another pill form of sedation, but it is lighter than oral conscious sedation. You will be able to drive yourself home afterwards. It is another relaxant that will put you at ease but keep you awake.

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas as many call it, is our lightest form of sedation. It is breathed in through a gas and will again ease any tense feelings but allow you to remain awake. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly; you will be able to drive yourself home afterwards.

If nervous feelings have been keeping you away from the dentist, ask about our sedation options for your next visit. To contact Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY, give us a call at (716) 877-2275 or visit our website, www.advantagedentistry.com.
