Dental Bonding

Repairing chips and cracks in your smile is easy and affordable. If you have been hiding your smile because of a chip, discoloration, or even a misalignment, dental bonding may be what you have been waiting for. At Advantage Dentistry here in Kenmore, NY, we offer our patients dental bonding so that they can get back the smile they are happy to show off!

Chips and cracks weaken teeth and pave the road for future complications. In addition, they can really make a smile appear dull and unsightly. Thankfully, there is a solution. In our Kenmore, NY dental practice, we have been restoring the smiles and the oral health of our patients by providing dental bonding. Bonding is a process where a tooth-colored composite resin is used to fix an imperfection or fill a cavity.  Your dentist will lightly etch the surface of the tooth to create a strong bond, and the resin is shaped over the chip or gap. For whitening, the resin is painted over the whole tooth. A light is used to harden the resin and then it is polished to shine like a real tooth.

If you are unhappy with your smile, consider getting an upgrade with dental bonding! To schedule your appointment with Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY, call our office at (716) 877-2275 or visit our website, www.advantagedentistry.com

Lumineers for a Gorgeous Grin

A bright smile is a great confidence booster, especially around the holidays! If you are looking to update your look with a brand-new and perfect smile, it is time you learned about Lumineers! Here at Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, we offer our patients Lumineers for bright, beautiful smiles!

During the holidays, cameras seem to pop up everywhere! You want to make sure you are looking your best with a gorgeous grin! For those who are unhappy with their smile, whether it be because of cracks, chips, misalignments, discoloration, or more, Lumineers are able to create a smile you can be proud of.

Lumineers are very thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They are not removable, so you are able to eat and use them just like normal teeth. They are different than traditional veneers because they are thinner and no preparation is needed to be performed on your teeth. This means they are completely reversible if desired. Lumineers are stain-resistant and strong. If you take care of them, they are able to last for over twenty years!

Lumineers are custom-created just for you. We take impressions of your teeth so an authorized Lumineers laboratory can create a set that will fit perfectly. When they are ready, the Lumineers are bonded into place one by one.

If you desire a bright and bold smile, consider Lumineers! To come in for a consultation, schedule an appointment with Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY by calling (716) 877-2275 or by visiting our website, www.advantagedentistry.com

What Are Dental Bridges?

Unlike removable devices such as dentures, dental bridge work is cemented onto natural teeth or dental implants, or a combination of both on either side of a missing tooth. Bridges strengthen damaged teeth and can improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). If you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge procedure from our staff at Advantage Dentistry might be the right dental treatment for you.

There are various types of bridges, but a traditional bridge is made by creating a crown for the teeth on either side of the space and placing a false tooth or teeth between the crowns. The crowns, sometimes called caps, can be supported by natural teeth, but only if the surround teeth and gums are healthy. The false tooth or teeth are then attached to the crowns and fill the empty space. Getting a bridge typically requires two visits, but often more. A bridge can last more than 10 years, especially if you practice good oral hygiene.

Proper Flossing Technique

Patients have all sorts of excuses for not flossing their teeth, but after our staff at Advantage Dentistry shares the proper flossing technique they will not be able to make excuses any longer. The main purpose of flossing isn’t to remove food from teeth. It’s to get rid of plaque in between them. Busting out the floss everyday every day prevents gum disease and tooth loss, so be sure you are doing it correctly at least once a day.

  • Wind 18 inches of floss around middle fingers of each hand. Pinch floss between thumbs and index fingers, leaving a one-to-two inch length in between. Use thumbs to direct floss between upper teeth.

  • Keep a one-to-two inch length of floss tight between fingers. Use index fingers to guide floss between contacts of the lower teeth.

  • Gently guide floss between the teeth by using a zig-zag motion. Do not snap floss between your teeth. Contour floss around the side of the tooth.

  • Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under the gum line. Floss each tooth thoroughly with a clean section of floss.

Brush Your Teeth Correctly

The only benefit of brushing your teeth is not just a whiter smile and fresher breath, it’s important for your overall health. When you brush, you remove plaque – a thin film of bacteria that sticks to your teeth and will cause cavities and gum disease, if you ignore it long enough. You know why you need to brush, but if you don’t do it correctly, not all of the plaque will disappear. This is why our staff at Advantage Dentistry would like to share the proper brushing technique with you.

  • Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.

  • Gently move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes.

  • Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

  • To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.

  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

Of course, brushing your teeth isn’t the only part of a complete dental routine. Don’t forget to floss and visit us regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.
