Dental Bonding

Repairing chips and cracks in your smile is easy and affordable. If you have been hiding your smile because of a chip, discoloration, or even a misalignment, dental bonding may be what you have been waiting for. At Advantage Dentistry here in Kenmore, NY, we offer our patients dental bonding so that they can get back the smile they are happy to show off!

Chips and cracks weaken teeth and pave the road for future complications. In addition, they can really make a smile appear dull and unsightly. Thankfully, there is a solution. In our Kenmore, NY dental practice, we have been restoring the smiles and the oral health of our patients by providing dental bonding. Bonding is a process where a tooth-colored composite resin is used to fix an imperfection or fill a cavity.  Your dentist will lightly etch the surface of the tooth to create a strong bond, and the resin is shaped over the chip or gap. For whitening, the resin is painted over the whole tooth. A light is used to harden the resin and then it is polished to shine like a real tooth.

If you are unhappy with your smile, consider getting an upgrade with dental bonding! To schedule your appointment with Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY, call our office at (716) 877-2275 or visit our website, www.advantagedentistry.com

Lumineers for a Gorgeous Grin

A bright smile is a great confidence booster, especially around the holidays! If you are looking to update your look with a brand-new and perfect smile, it is time you learned about Lumineers! Here at Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, we offer our patients Lumineers for bright, beautiful smiles!

During the holidays, cameras seem to pop up everywhere! You want to make sure you are looking your best with a gorgeous grin! For those who are unhappy with their smile, whether it be because of cracks, chips, misalignments, discoloration, or more, Lumineers are able to create a smile you can be proud of.

Lumineers are very thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They are not removable, so you are able to eat and use them just like normal teeth. They are different than traditional veneers because they are thinner and no preparation is needed to be performed on your teeth. This means they are completely reversible if desired. Lumineers are stain-resistant and strong. If you take care of them, they are able to last for over twenty years!

Lumineers are custom-created just for you. We take impressions of your teeth so an authorized Lumineers laboratory can create a set that will fit perfectly. When they are ready, the Lumineers are bonded into place one by one.

If you desire a bright and bold smile, consider Lumineers! To come in for a consultation, schedule an appointment with Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY by calling (716) 877-2275 or by visiting our website, www.advantagedentistry.com

What Are Dental Bridges?

Unlike removable devices such as dentures, dental bridge work is cemented onto natural teeth or dental implants, or a combination of both on either side of a missing tooth. Bridges strengthen damaged teeth and can improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). If you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge procedure from our staff at Advantage Dentistry might be the right dental treatment for you.

There are various types of bridges, but a traditional bridge is made by creating a crown for the teeth on either side of the space and placing a false tooth or teeth between the crowns. The crowns, sometimes called caps, can be supported by natural teeth, but only if the surround teeth and gums are healthy. The false tooth or teeth are then attached to the crowns and fill the empty space. Getting a bridge typically requires two visits, but often more. A bridge can last more than 10 years, especially if you practice good oral hygiene.

If you have missing teeth, and want to explore your treatment options, give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the office, visit www.advantagedentistry.com for more information. Proper Flossing Technique

Patients have all sorts of excuses for not flossing their teeth, but after our staff at Advantage Dentistry shares the proper flossing technique they will not be able to make excuses any longer. The main purpose of flossing isn’t to remove food from teeth. It’s to get rid of plaque in between them. Busting out the floss everyday every day prevents gum disease and tooth loss, so be sure you are doing it correctly at least once a day.

  • Wind 18 inches of floss around middle fingers of each hand. Pinch floss between thumbs and index fingers, leaving a one-to-two inch length in between. Use thumbs to direct floss between upper teeth.

  • Keep a one-to-two inch length of floss tight between fingers. Use index fingers to guide floss between contacts of the lower teeth.

  • Gently guide floss between the teeth by using a zig-zag motion. Do not snap floss between your teeth. Contour floss around the side of the tooth.

  • Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under the gum line. Floss each tooth thoroughly with a clean section of floss.

If you have questions about oral hygiene, give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the office, visit www.advantagedentistry.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with one of our dentists at Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, call 716-877-2275.

Brush Your Teeth Correctly

The only benefit of brushing your teeth is not just a whiter smile and fresher breath, it’s important for your overall health. When you brush, you remove plaque – a thin film of bacteria that sticks to your teeth and will cause cavities and gum disease, if you ignore it long enough. You know why you need to brush, but if you don’t do it correctly, not all of the plaque will disappear. This is why our staff at Advantage Dentistry would like to share the proper brushing technique with you.

  • Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.

  • Gently move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes.

  • Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

  • To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.

  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

Of course, brushing your teeth isn’t the only part of a complete dental routine. Don’t forget to floss and visit us regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.

If you have questions about oral hygiene, give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the office, visit www.advantagedentistry.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with one of our dentists at Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, call 716-877-2275.

Root Canal Procedure

“Root Canal” has become a scary term for dental patients to hear, but the benefits of the procedure and advances in dental technology have made it much less frightening. When a tooth becomes infected it is usually related to the nerves in the root of the tooth. The infected nerves need to then be removed and this is done with a root canal. At Advantage Dentistry our staff will save your tooth after we’ve determined that you are a candidate for the procedure.

The root canal procedure requires one or more office visits and can be performed right here in the office. The first step in the procedure is to take an X-ray to see the shape of the root canals and determine if there are any signs of infection in the surrounding bone. You will receive anesthesia as necessary, once the tooth is thoroughly cleaned, it needs to be sealed. If the root canal is not completed on the same day, a temporary filling will be placed in the exterior hole in the tooth to keep contaminants out between appointments. When all of the work is completed, the root canal procedure should relieve the pain you feel.

If you are experiencing sensitive tooth pain, give us a call. To learn more about root canals as well as other services we provide at the office, visit www.advantagedentistry.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with one of our dentists at Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, call 716-877-2275.

Invisalign at Advantage Dentistry

At Advantage Dentistry we offer our patients Invisalign so that they can straighten their smile invisibly. With Invisalign treatment, metal mouth is a thing of the past, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements our dentists plan out for you.

A typical Invisalign treatment requires 20 to 30 aligners for both the upper and lower teeth. Most patients complete their treatment in less than one year. However, treatment depends on the specific alignment problem. For mild cases of crooked teeth and protruding teeth, to much more difficult dental problems involving serious malocclusion, overbite, or underbite, Invisalign effectively corrects a wide variety of dental problems. Whether your teeth are widely gapped, overly crowded or somewhere in between, Invisalign has an affordable teeth straightening option for you.

Snoring Appliances at Advantage Dentistry

Occasional snoring is usually not very serious and is more so a nuisance to your bed partner. However, if you are a habitual snorer, you not only disrupt the sleep patterns of your loved one, but you also impair your own sleep quality. Snoring occurs when the flow of air through the mouth and nose is physically obstructed. When this happens, our staff at Advantage Dentistry can offer a variety of snoring appliances so that you can clear your airway and sleep like a baby.

Snoring is one of the symptoms of a health condition known as sleep apnea, a disorder that can be hard to identify. The problem with sleep apnea is that it is a severe condition requiring immediate treatment. Because of this, our dental professionals at Advantage Dentistry must determine if the snoring problem signifies the presence of sleep apnea as early as possible. Oral devices are useful in correcting mild to moderate cases of obstructive sleep apnea. At Advantage Dentistry we can recommend one that suits your particular needs and fit it in the safest way.

If you have disrupted your sleeping partner one too many times with your snoring, give us a call to discuss your treatment options or visit www.advantagedentistry.com for more information about the services we offer. Are You Brushing Your Teeth Properly?

Brushing your teeth is an important part of your dental care routine and our staff at Advantage Dentistry wants to make sure you are doing the job properly. While there are several methods of brushing teeth with a manual toothbrush, an electric toothbrush may be a little bit more effective depending on the severity of build-up on your teeth. Both types of toothbrushes work equally well, however, it all depends on how frequently you use them.

Using the correct techniques for twice-daily tooth brushing will help promote oral health for the long term. Keep these techniques in mind when you brush your teeth:

  • Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.

  • Move the brush back-and-forth gently in short strokes.

  • Brush the outer surfaces, the inside surfaces and the chewing surfaces of all teeth.

  • To clean the inside surface of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.

  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

If you have questions about oral hygiene give us a call or visit www.advantagedentistry.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with one of our dentists at Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, call 716-877-2275.

ZOOM! Whitening for Dramatic Whitening Results

Bright and white teeth offer a smile that radiates confidence. Although you may take good care of your mouth, sometimes stains still occur. In our Kenmore, NY dental practice, here at Advantage Dentistry, we offer ZOOM! Whitening as a professional whitening system that gets results.

When surface stains penetrate the enamel, they can begin to darken the color of the dentin; the center of the tooth. When the dentin darkens, this can darken the whole tooth or turn it a yellowish color. When whitening systems are successful, they go below the enamel’s surface to reach the dentin. When the chemical reaction lightens the color of the dentin, the whole tooth is free to become whiter and brighter. This is the approach ZOOM! Whitening takes.

ZOOM! Whitening is an in-office whitening procedure that combines a whitening gel with an activator light. The gel is applied to your teeth and the light is applied to activate and accelerate the whitening process. The process is separated into three short segments that are all completed within one hour. Depending on your level of staining, within an hour, you could walk out of our office with a smile that is up to ten shades whiter!

If you are interested in a professional-only accessed whitening system that delivers dramatic results, contact us to find out more about ZOOM! Whitening. To schedule an appointment in our Kenmore, NY office, call us at (716) 877-2275 or visit our Advantage Dentistry website, www.advantagedentistry.com

Mini Implants

When a traditional-sized dental implant is too large to fit where a tooth needs replacement, it is nice to have another option. Here at Advantage Dentistry in Kenmore, NY, along with full-sized dental implants, we also offer mini implants.

Mini implants are great for when there is a narrow space a replacement needs to fit into. Because they are about half the size of a traditional-sized implant, there is no incision needed to insert the implant post. This means there is a much quicker healing period and the permanent replacement crown can often be attached in the same day.

Mini implants are also often used as base for dentures. Clipping the dentures into a set of implants offers a much more stable platform for them. Four to six mini implants are installed along the upper or lower jaw line (it can be done for both). Many dentures can then be adjusted so that they can be clipped into the implants. Others will have a new set of dentures created.

Mini implants are also able to last a lifetime with good care. If you think your oral health may benefit from mini implants, schedule a consultation in our Kenmore, NY dental office. To schedule, call Advantage Dentistry at (716) 877-2275 or visit our website, www.advantagedentistry.com

Dental Implants for Permanent Tooth Replacement

Dental implants are the permanent solution for tooth replacement. While there are other options, they will eventually need to be replaced. This convenience and performance is why Advantage Dentistry here in Kenmore, NY offers dental implants to patients with missing teeth.

There are other options available for tooth replacement like bridges and dentures; which are still popular, but they are not as durable and will need to be replaced in the future. When you have a dental implant installed, you are permanently replacing your tooth with the most realistic option. A dental implant actual has an implant post that is inserted into your bone socket like a real tooth’s root. The titanium post bonds with the jawbone for a durable replacement that can last a lifetime.

The process of installing an implant is surgical, so there will be a healing time required before a permanent crown can be attached as the replacement tooth. During the healing time, a temporary crown will be worn to protect the area and allow you to use the tooth normally.

Choosing a dental implant to replace your missing tooth will ensure that your smile is back for good. Any speech problems will also be fixed and you will be able to enjoy eating again.

If you are ready to replace one or more of your missing teeth, consider dental implants for permanent results. To schedule an appointment with Advantage Dentistry here in Kenmore, NY, call our office at (716) 877-2275 or visit our website, www.advantagedentistry.com

Sedation Dentistry in Kenmore, NY

We know having dental work done may not be the most relaxing experience. For many, dental work actually incites anxiety. It is for this reason that here at Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY, we offer several options for sedation. We aim for all of our patients to have a comfortable and pleasant visit with us.

Whether you are having major dental work performed or a simple cavity filled, we want to be sure our patients do not experience any anxiety or fear during the process. We have several options for sedation that will allow any nervousness to disappear. The procedure will seem to go by quicker as you drift into ease.

Oral conscious sedation relaxes you but it allows you to remain conscious during the procedure. You may not remember part of all of the procedure afterwards. It is in the form of a pill and the effects may last beyond the procedure, so you will need someone to drive you home.

Anxiolysis is another pill form of sedation, but it is lighter than oral conscious sedation. You will be able to drive yourself home afterwards. It is another relaxant that will put you at ease but keep you awake.

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas as many call it, is our lightest form of sedation. It is breathed in through a gas and will again ease any tense feelings but allow you to remain awake. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly; you will be able to drive yourself home afterwards.

If nervous feelings have been keeping you away from the dentist, ask about our sedation options for your next visit. To contact Advantage Dentistry of Kenmore, NY, give us a call at (716) 877-2275 or visit our website, www.advantagedentistry.com.
